Brady Out for 2008 with Torn ACL
Edit : Its over, Bill Belichick just announced on WEEI’s the Big Show, that Brady will be placed on the IR. Sorry Pats fans.
During the middle of the first quarter of the Patriots first game of the season against the Kansas City Chiefs, Tom Brady dropped back to pass and was hit in the left knee as he planted to throw. He was in apparent pain as he was helped off the field by trainers. His return was deemed questionable and for all intensive purposes, unlikely. I’m thinking a sprained ligament is the most likely culprit, but we will most likely not see Brady again today.
Matt Cassel came into the game, and most did not know what to expect, given his very limited play over the past 3 years. He marched the Patriots down the field during the second quarter, however, and capped off the drive with a nice pass to Randy Moss in the back of the end zone. 7-0 Pats midway into the second quarter.
The Patriots won the game, but more importantly, a number of sources are coming in from the Patriots locker room saying that Brady will miss the remainder of the 2008 season with a torn ACL. This is devastating news to the Patriots organization (and to fantasy owners as well). More to come on Brady’s injury as soon as it becomes available…could we be seeing the beginnings of the Matt Cassel era? We will have to see, but if that is the case, Cassel will have to step it up this season and utilize the receiving corps that he has been given.
