Fire Bill Belichick

So there has been a ton of fallout from this now overblown Spygate nonsense, but one thing has occurred to me during all of it.  I think the Patriots could have avoided this whole situation by personally punishing Bill Belichick; rather they waited and waited for the league to make a move.   I understand the Kraft’s wanting to stand by their coach, but he broke the rules, and they should be pissed.

You have ownership that is running this team that wants to market the Patriots as an international brand.  At this point I can’t see that happening because everyone outside of the New England area sees the Patriots as one thing, cheaters.  I don’t care what the Pom-Pom carrying members of the Patriots super-fan club say; their coach cheated, and in turn everyone sees this team as cheaters.  I don’t care if everyone does it, I don’t care if it didn’t help that much, all I know is what people outside of New England are saying, so stop defending him to me.

So how can the Kraft’s show that they understand what their coach did was bad, and more importantly how can they repair the relationship with the rest of this country.  Fire Bill Belichick.  At first even typing it is difficult, and it’s sort of unreal I can even argue this point.  This guy is one of the most successful coaches in the history of the game; three Superbowls, nearly going nineteen and zero, and having an amazing playoff record, but is he truly untouchable?  Is he coach for life, will he have this job forever, of course not.  You think he will be the first super successful coach to be fired, remember Tom Landry.  After twenty-nine seasons, two Superbowl wins, 5 Superbowl appearances, and 20 straight winning seasons, the Dallas Cowboy’s fired a coach that is still considered a god in that state.  Guess what happened, Jimmy Johnson came in, the Cowboy’s won more Superbowls and Jerry Jones was forgiven.  Totally different scenario of course, but the proof is there that the Patriots would survive.

Of course none of this will ever happen, and perhaps it shouldn’t.  Maybe the Kraft’s standing by their coach is the right thing to do.  I am sure some other scandal will come along to distract people from this.  One thing I do believe as long as Belichick is the coach the stigma of Spygate will stay with this team.
