Barry Bonds has been indicted

Breaking news off the wire, it seems as though Barry Bonds has been indicted of perjury and obstruction of justice.  This is the result of a four year federal investigation, into whether he lied under oath to a grand jury looking into steroid use by elite athletes.  Yet another black mark from a cheater, that is slowly attempting to take a sport down with him.  Why doesn’t he just retire, even if he doesn’t get convicted, the court of public opinion has already passed judgment.  I wonder if this announcement had any baring on the Mitchell report not yet being released.

Barry Bonds record becomes a bigger joke

September 26th, 2007 Goyette Posted in 756, Barry Bonds, baseball No Comments »

Barry Bond’s 756th Homerun ball has had its fate decided, and its one we were all hoping for.  As many of you know Marc Ecko won the ball with a bid of about 750,000  has left it up to visitors of a website to decide on what will happen to the ball, and the fans have decided, an Asterisk it is.

Ecko is working with the Hall of Fame to have the ball placed there, after of course said Asterisk.  Hall of Fame President Dale Petroskey has said, “We’re happy to get it, we’re a nonprofit history museum, so this ball wouldn’t be coming to Cooperstown without Marc Ecko buying it from the fan who caught it.”

Ecko announced the decision on the Today show, and said he will be working with the Hall over the next few days to get it to them.

I for one think this is great, I can’t wait to see it sit there in the Hall with a big asterisk on it.

Barry Bonds and Giants part ways

September 21st, 2007 Goyette Posted in Barry Bonds, Giants, MLB, baseball 1 Comment »

Well the question now is will Bonds play in ‘08, and now where will he play.  It is being reported that Giants will not re-sign him, so where will he go, I am guessing he is off to DH at an AL club, we will have to watch and see.

Mark Ecko wins 756

September 17th, 2007 Goyette Posted in 756, Barry Bonds, baseball No Comments »

Fashion designer Mark Ecko won the auction for Barry Bonds 756th home run ball, and he is doing something unique with it. If you go to this site he is allowing the public to decide what to do with the ball. There are three choices; 1.) Give the ball to the Hall of Fame, 2.) Blast the ball into space, or 3.) Brand the ball with an Asterisk. I voted for 1, only because I think it belongs in the Hall, maybe with an asterisk on it. Let me hear your thoughts.

Barry Bonds calls Ecko an idiot.

Student who catches ball may not sell

August 10th, 2007 Goyette Posted in Barry Bonds, Sports, baseball, money 1 Comment »

During his invterview with the Today show 22 year old Matt Murphy says he may not sell Barry Bond’s 756 homerun ball.  He told the Today show, “Part of me wants to keep it. It’s the greatest American sports accomplishment in history, part of me might want to sell it, but I really am leaning towards keeping it. It’s just too valuable, sentimental.”  The craziest part of all this, is even if he decides to keep it, he will to pay taxes on it, and as the ball gets older, and it’s value gets to be more, he will have to pay capital gains taxes on it.  They value of the ball is estimated at anywhere between five hundred to seven hundred thousand dollars.  It seems to me, unless this kid has money, that he has to sell it or pay a ridiculous amount of money just to keep it.

NY Fan catches 756

Man I wish I was this guy, that ball is worth quite a bit, but at what point do you think you should just give it back.

Edit: There is a mistake in the story, it says he had a Yankee’s jersey on, but I am pretty sure the picture shows that he has a Met’s jersey on.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - With the crack of the bat a brief stillness settled over the right-center field bleachers at AT&T Park as Barry Bonds‘ record-breaking homer rocketed toward the crowd.

Then the scrum was on. Read More

Bonds breaks Aarons Record

August 7th, 2007 Goyette Posted in Barry Bonds, Sports, baseball No Comments »

Barry Bonds two days after tying Hank Aaron, has broken the career homerun record. Not matter how you feel about his steroid use, it’s still a major event for baseball, and sports. Hank Aaron is congratulating him on the video screen as I type. I don’t think this would be as good, if it were in a different park, the fans are going crazy. Congrats Barry!  (I am just glad this is over)
